A dozen others were wounded in the fighting, according to the sources.
The fighting on Friday started when militants from Galmudug launched an attack against Puntland forces base in Garsor village of Galkayo town, according to the residents.
There have been no comments from Puntland and Galmudug administrations on Friday’s fighting.
The Somalia’s two states have fought in Galkayo last year, leaves at least 40 dead.
Galkayo is divided into two parts, one administered by Puntland and other by Galmudug.
