Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Puntland’s Galkayo local councilors have been elected Mohamed Yasin Ahmed “Tumay” as the new mayor of the town.
Mr. Tumay defeated his closest competitor Deq Mohamoud Hashi by 24 votes during the last round of voting.
In the third round of voting, the new mayor received 24 votes and his rival Deq 7 votes.
The election was attended by the Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, members of Parliament, ministers, and traditional elders of Galkayo who selected the new councilors of Galkayo.
On 8 July, the Puntland President has dissolved the local council of Galkayo town after they failed the work of the town and nominated Mohamed Yasin Ahmed as acting mayor.
The new mayor is a young scholar, who worked in the transitional federal government of Somalia, Mr. Tumay was also served as the secretary of Somali embassy in Belgium.
