A military helicopter crashed in Kenya, killing at least eight people. The crash happened in the county of Lamu, which is near the border with Somalia.

It is not yet clear what caused the crash. Kenyan defense forces operate in the area to help deter the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab group, which is based in Somalia.

Security officials say all the military personnel and crew on board the helicopter that crashed in Kenya died. Kenyan troops are also in Somalia to help fight al-Shabab.

The Kenyan troops were deployed to Somalia in 2011, but there are now plans to withdraw the multinational forces as Somali troops take over responsibility for their country’s security.
