Egypt donates military hardware to Somalia

Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) Somalia’s federal government in Mogadishu has on Tuesday received military hardware from the Egyptian government, which is fighting against terrorist in Southern Somalia.

Egyptian Ambassador to Somalia, Waliid Mohamed Ismael handed over the donation to the Somali Ministry of Defense, Abdukadir Sheikh Ali Diini at an occasion held in the capital Mogadishu today in attendance with government officials and diplomats.

“We gave vehicles, weapons and uniforms to Somalia, it is for Somali National Army’s Commandos, Danab’, we contributed office supply and military support to the ministry of defense of Somalia last year, Egypt does not support Somalia in terms of military only, but education, health and make investment”, Egyptian Ambassador told Somali national news agency.

In his part, the Somali defence Abdukadir Sheikh Ali Diini minister thanked Egyptian government for the support of the military hardware.

“This military supply from our brothers-Egyptian government is intended for our special forces ‘Danab’ to fight against terrorism, we thank Egypt again and again,” minister said.

Somalia and Egypt has already had a strong historical relationship. Both nations are Arab League members. Somalia has an embassy in Cairo and Egypt appointed its ambassador to Somalia last year.
