Al-Shabab transferred to Mogadishu some of them escaped, Puntland VP says

Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Puntland Deputy President Abdihakim Omar Amay said that members of Al-Shabab whom were transferred to Mogadishu, some of them escaped, and rejoined to Al-Shabab militants in southern Somalia.

“Reports we are getting suggest that the Al-Shabab militants whom were transferred to Mogadishu some of them are missing, and again captured them in a battle fields’’. Amey said.

He added: “We request for that to be investigated and looked up on. Onwards, we would make sure that no other militant to be transfered to Mogadishu again, if they are likely to escape from there’’. 

In Late 2016, Puntland handed over 26 Al-Shabab prisoners who were under the age of 18 years to Somali government in Mogadishu.

In recent, Puntland Mirror has learned that Puntland government has postponed the execution of Al-Shabab prisoners who have already been sentenced to death, the prisoners have been released from prison and moved a household in Garowe to reintegrate into society.
