Baidoa-(Puntland Mirror) Former Al-Shabab leader Mukhtar Roobow has accepted to surrender to the Somali federal government, officials confirmed.
The surrender came after closed-door meeting between officials from the Somali government and Roobow, which took place in Abal village, according to sources.
Al-Shabab militants and fighters loyal to Roobow have been fighting over Abal since Friday.
Abal is a small town in Bakool region, a stronghold of his clan “Raxan-weyn”.
In late June this year, US removed Mukhtar Roobow from its list of global terrorist people.
After the US’s decision, Al-Shabab began an offensive against Roobow to imprisonment or kill.
