Somali forces and AMISOM troops kill top Al-Shabab commander in Lower Shabelle region

Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) A high-ranking Al-Shabab commander known as Mohamed Hassan was killed in a joint military operation carried out by Somali government forces and AMISOM troops in Awdhigel area of Lower Shabelle region on Thursday, according to spokesman.

Spokesman of AMISOM, Col. Joe Kibet told local media on Wednesday that the allied forces have killed a senior commander of the Al-Shabab militants in Awdhigle.

“The commander of Al-Shabab militants in Awdhigle area known as Mohamed Hassan was killed in a joint military operation carried out by Somali government forces and our troops,” Joe told reporters.

He added the allied forces seized weapons and other military equipment in the operation on Thursday.

Somali national army backed by AMISOM troops has stepped up security operations against al-Shabab armed group in the South and central Somalia this year.
