Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) The World Bank has approved a $112 million grant to support job creation, social protection, and climate resilience in Somalia, targeting more than 738,000 people across the country.

The funding will support the second phase of the Somalia Shock Responsive Safety Net for Human Capital Project (SNHCP II), which aims to expand cash-for-work programs, strengthen safety nets, and invest in climate-resilient infrastructure.

The initiative will focus on vulnerable groups, including rural communities, internally displaced persons, and those affected by climate shocks such as drought and flooding.

“This project will help Somalia build a more inclusive and climate-resilient future,” said Kristina Svensson, World Bank Country Manager for Somalia.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Services will implement the program in partnership with UNICEF and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The SNHCP II builds on earlier efforts to establish Somalia’s social protection system and aligns with the country’s development priorities under the Somalia Country Partnership Framework.
