Lasanod–(Puntland Mirror) The Federal Government of Somalia has officially recognized SSC-Khatumo as a federal member state, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre made a historic visit to Lasanod, where he held talks with SSC-Khatumo leaders.

“The Federal Government of Somalia, following the February 6, 2023 decision by SSC-Khatumo elders and intellectuals, and the interim administration recognition on October 19, 2023, has reviewed SSC-Khatumo’s governance efforts and unity. After confirming the people’s commitment to state-building, progress in finalizing the constitution, and preparations for a general conference, the government has decided to recognize SSC-Khatumo as a federal member state,” the statement said.

The government also announced that SSC-Khatumo will have full representation in the National Consultative Council and its territories will be considered part of Somalia—not disputed regions.

The statement added that all federal institutions, NGOs, and international partners must operate in SSC-Khatumo just as they do in other federal member states.
