Somalia celebrates its 56th Independence Day

Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) Somalia’s people are marking its 56th anniversary of the Independence Day.

In the capital, celebration held in the Mogadishu’s local government on Friday night was attended by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.

Speaking the celebration ceremony, President Mohamoud congratulated all Somalis on the 56th of their independence day and urged his people to be united.

On July 1, Italian Somalia and British Somalia become independent, unite and from the United Reuplice of Somalia.

After President Mohamed Siad Bare’s government collapsed in 1991 Somalia had not functioning institutions. The UN backed Somali government is trying to rebuild the institutions of the Horn of Africa nation in the midst of fierce war against al-Shabab militants, which is struggling to overthrow Mogadishu’s government.
