Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Puntland Mirror’s managing editor Abdi Omar Bile has been selected to be part of the Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN).

The seventh cohort, according to the announcement on its website, includes 100 journalists (34 men and 66 women) from dozens of countries and territories and from a wide range of news outlets.

Abdi is among the 100 media professionals selected from 800 applicants for the fellowship’s seventh cohort, which will run from January to June 2025.

The Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN) is an initiative of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. Per its website, the OCJN “supports a global community of reporters and editors across beats and platforms to enhance the quality, understanding, and impact of climate coverage worldwide.”

Launched in January 2022, the program has trained approximately 600 journalists from 122 countries. Puntland Mirror’s managing editor is the sole journalist from Somalia, a nation severely affected by climate change, dealing with recurrent droughts, floods, and food insecurity, yet these issues frequently receive scant media attention.
