Puntland military court sentences 43 al-Shabab fighters to death

Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Somalia’s Puntland military court on Thursday sentenced 43 of al-Shabab fighters to death, according to the military sources.

The 43 of al-Shabab fighters were found that they are al-Shabab fighters who partaken the deadly fighting between Puntland government forces and al-Shabab group in March.

During the trial of the members, the local media were denied in the court.

Puntland’s army official who spoke to Puntland Mirror on condition of anonymity said the sentenced members are above the age of 18.

In recent, speaking to the journalists, Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has promised to rehabilitate the al-Shabab young fighters in the prison and reintegrate them back into the people.

In March, the Indian Ocean shores battle between Puntland government forces and al-Shabab, more than hundreds of al-Shabab fighters were killed in the battle while the government lost more than 20 soldiers, according to the independent sources.
