The attack occurred in Afgoye, an agricultural district about 30 km northwest of Mogadishu, according to Reuters report.
There were fatalities but the exact number is not yet clear, the report added.
According to pro-Al-Shabab media, the militant said it had carried out the attack, adding that several soldiers were killed in the blast, but it was not possible to independently confirm.
The attacked convoy was U.S.-trained Somali military forces.
