Al-Shabab militants attack Somali military base in southwest Mogadishu

Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) Al-Shabab militants has attacked a military base of Somali army in southwest of the capital Mogadishu on Monday.

Somali military officer who spoke to Reuters said “Heavy exchange of gunfire continued for hours,” At least 12 al Shabab fighters were killed, he added.

The militants rammed a car packed with explosives into the base, according to the military officer.

The group’s military operations spokesman, Abdiasis Abu Musab told Reuters it had killed 30 soldiers in the attack. He did not mention their losses.

Al-Shabab has often exaggerated casualty figures in the past, while Somali officials did not tell the real number of casualties.
