Garowe-(Puntland) 18 rape cases happened in Puntland for the last three months, the region’s acting attorney general told to the media Tuesday in Garowe.

Mohamed Farah Hared, who is the acting officer of the attorney general said in a press conference held in Garowe that 18 rape cases happened for the first three months of 2018 in Nugal, Mudug, Karkar and Bari regions.

The acting attorney general has accused the traditional leaders of hiding sex offences against girls, and carry applying the cases in unfair customary laws, that violates human rights.

In the year 2016, Puntland’s parliament had approved the sexual offence law.
