Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Somali Presidential candidates have refused to attend the presidential debate, which is scheduled to be held in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

According to the sources, the debate failed after state-run media (SNTV) has been chosen to referee the debate.

Almost 24 presidential aspirants including incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud were expected to attend the debate.

The government has refused the independent media to participate in the discussion, prompting candidates to withdraw from the debate, sources said.

Somali people were expected to watch the first presidential debate in the Horn of Africa nation, but unfortunately it aborted.

Somalia’s presidential election is set for February 8.
