Somali government forces retakes El-wak town after Al-Shabab militants withdraw

Al-Shabab fighters have captured El-wak on Friday.

Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) Al-Shabab militants have withdrawn from El-wak town near border with Kenya a day after the militants captured the town, residents said.

Residents in El-wak town said the Al-Shabab battle-wagon loaded with their weapons had been leaving since the Saturday morning.

It was yesterday when Al-Shabab fighters captured El-wak after Somali government forces withdrew from their military bases.

Meanwhile, heavily armed Somali government forces backed by AMISOM troops are back in control of El-wak after the militants left.

El-wak is a key town on the Somalia-Kenya border, the town has been under the control of the Somali government forces since 2011.
