Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Puntland said their armed forces killed at least 50 Galmudug fighters, who yesterday attacked Puntland military bases in the southern outskirts of Galkayo town in Mudug region, the armed forces commander said.

The commander of Puntland’s Danab unit forces Colonel Jimale Jama Takar, told journalists on Sunday that the forces killed at least 50 Galmudug fighters in an attack in the southern outskirts of Galkayo.

“They attacked our forces in the southern outskirts of the town on Sunday morning, we repelled and killed at least 50 Galmudug fighters,” Takar said.

“We also seized three military vehicles belonging to the Galmudug during the fighting between our forces and their militants.” The commander added.

Meanwhile, Mr Takar said at least 12 Puntland forces were killed in the fighting.

“We lost 12 soldiers and 13 others were wounded,” Colonel Takar said.

Puntland forces and Galmudug militants frequently fought over territory in recent years. The Sunday’s fighting came one week after the presidents of the two sides reached a ceasefire agreement in Abu Dhabi that was brokered by The United Arab Emirates (UAE).
