Mogadishu-(Puntland Mirror) Al-Shabab militants captured Goofgaduud town in south-western of Somalia from Somali government forces on Sunday, officials said.

A Somali security official who asked to remain unnamed told Puntland Mirror that the town fell to Al-Shabab militants this morning.

Al Shabaab’s military operations spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, confirmed the group had captured the town, according to Al-Shabab-linked media.

Goofgaduud lies about 245km northwest of Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The Goofgaduud’s capture comes a week after Al-Shabab militants took Tiyeglow town in South-western of the country after Ethiopian troops pull out.
