Puntland Parliament wants to block President’s proposal to increase parliamentary seats

Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) Lawmakers in Puntland will try to block plan for Puntland President to increase seats of Parliament, sources close to lawmakers told Puntland Mirror.

Nearly 45 MPs have signed a document calling for Parliament Speaker Ahmed Ali Hashi to block the president’s proposal to increase the parliamentary seats, citing the president’s request is illegal according to the state’s constitution.

In recent, President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali of Puntland sent a request document to the Parliament Speaker requesting additional seats for clans hailing from Mudug region.

Since it was founded in 1998, Puntland Parliament consists of 66 members.
