Garowe-(Puntland Mirror) The US has confirmed that it conducted an airstrike that killed a local elder Omar Abdullahi Abdi the Sanaag region of Puntland, AFRICOM said.
In a statement on Wednesday, the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said that, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, it conducted airstrikes targeting an al-Shabaab weapons dealer on September 13, 2025, in the vicinity of Badhan, Somalia.
This comes as communities in Sanaag have been demonstrating over the killing of the elder, calling on Puntland authorities to provide further details, despite no comment from Puntland officials.
The elder reportedly had arrived in Bosaso, where he was among the delegates from Sanaag holding a meeting with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni last month.
