Partly False: One of these images isn’t of South-West State President’s arrival in Mogadishu on 2 October 2024

One of the images was initially shared in March 2021.

A Facebook post featuring three images, claiming to show security guards during the arrival of Somalia’s South-West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen Mogadishu, is PARTLY FALSE.

“Laftagareen with armed security forces landed at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu,” the post reads.

The images were shared on 2 October 2024, when the Somalia National Consultative Council meeting began in Mogadishu. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed, known as Laftagareen, the President of South-West State in Somalia, arrived in Mogadishu for the meeting on the same date.

To verify the authenticity of the image, Puntland Mirror conducted Google reverse image search, as seen here, here and here, which confirmed that one of the images was not from the 2 October 2024 event.

The first picture, showing Laftagareen disembarking from the plane, was initially shared on the Facebook page of the President of South-West State in Somalia when he arrived in Mogadishu on 2 October ,2024. 

The second picture, showing armed forces walking at Mogadishu Airport, was initially published  in March 2021, when Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni arrived in Mogadishu, as seen here, here and here .

The third picture, showing security guards on a plane, was initially published when the President of South-West State in Somalia arrived in Mogadishu on October 2,2024, as seen here, here and here .

Puntland Mirror examined a Facebook post featuring three images, claiming to show security guards during the arrival of Somalia’s South-West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen Mogadishu and found it to be PARTLY FALSE.
