This post on X (formerly Twitter) with images showing a convoy of 10,000 Egyptian troops arriving in Mogadishu is FALSE.
“A convoy of 10,000 Egyptian troops has arrived in Mogadishu. This is to implement the military agreement between Somalia and Egypt. This is a mouthpiece for the PM’s dream of sea sea. Not to live peacefully with her neighbors,” reads the post.
The claim was shared as the latest military agreement between Somalia, and Egypt was signed to bolster security cooperation.
On August 14, as reported here, the pact was signed after bilateral talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is on a two-day visit to Cairo.
However, to verify the authenticity of the images, Puntland Mirror conducted Google reverse image search and found that the first image of the soldiers lining-up with military gear, was published during a military exercise between Egypt, and Sudan, as shown here.
The second image shows Egyptian troops fighting in Libya’s Darna. It surfaced on social media, as Libyan Observer reported.
Furthermore, a Google search did not yield results for the above claim.
