US sanctions Somali businessman for supporting ISIS militants

Washington-(Puntland Mirror) The US has sanctioned a Somali businessman accused of supporting ISIS faction in Puntland, Somalia.

In a statement issued by U.S. Treasury on Friday, said it had sanctioned Mohamed Mire Ali Yusuf and his firms Liibaan Trading and Al Mutafaq Commercial Company for activities supporting Islamic State in Somalia.

Mohamed Mire Ali Yusuf also known as “Soo Dareeri” is a Somali businessman, based in Bosaso and Dubai.

A small group of ISIS led by ex Al-Shabab leader, Abdikadir Mumin, has been active in Bari region of Puntland since 2015. It claimed responsibility of terrorist attacks took place in Bosaso .

In late 2017, US conducted its first airstrike against ISIS militants in Somalia, killing several fighters.
